One of the most beautiful chalets in the Montafon.

On the southeast shoulder of the Kleinlitzner at 2,538 m stands the highest refuge in the Silvretta. The view from the chalet is magnificent. It lies against the backdrop of the glaciated mountain landscape of the Litzner-Seehorn range, which is considered to be the most beautiful twin-peak crossing in the Silvretta. A climbing garden is located in the immediate vicinity.

The partly glaciated touring region of the Saarbrücker Chalet has something for everyone: beginners and experts, mountaineers and mountain climbers, touring skiers, day-trippers or guests who have booked a longer stay.

It is a real alpine chalet with a character that has been preserved right down to the present day. The Saarbrücker Chalet carries the seal of quality “Mit Familien auf Hütten” (“Family-friendly chalets”).

How to get there:

  • Bielerhöhe / Madlener Haus, 1,986 m, walking time approx. 2.5 hours
  • Klosters, 1,194 m, walking time approx. 6 hours
  • Vermunt reservoir, 1,750 m, walking time approx. 2 hours

Stefan: The dream job of being an innkeeper
Stefan Schöpf has been running the Saarbrücker Chalet in the Silvretta since September 2017. His family offers enthusiastic support – his wife helps wherever she is needed and his brother-in-law is the chef de cuisine. “I wouldn’t be able to do this dream job of being an innkeeper without my family,” the Tyrolean acknowledges thankfully. In summer, his children join the family in the mountains of the Silvretta. Only during the relatively short winter season of the Saarbrücker Chalet do they stay in the valley with their mother.

Stefan is a trained mason and carpenter. But his passion lies up in the high peaks of the Alps, which he proved during his time as a mountain rescuer. Back then, it became clear to him that he wanted to lease a chalet. When the opportunity of leasing the Saarbrücker Chalet came up, the 36 year-old didn’t hesitate for a second.

Purely home-made foods
Only home-made dishes are served to the guests of the Saarbrücker Chalet. Especially the dumpling variations, the Kässpätzle (cheese dumplings) and the Kaiserschmarrn (sugar raisin pancakes) are very popular with the hungry mountaineers. “Everything is freshly cooked here. We wouldn’t dream of using deep fat fryers,” Stefan explains the chalet’s culinary concept. The traditional and cosy atmosphere of the parlour makes the food taste even better. “In general, the Saarbrücker Chalet with its original character is certainly one of the most beautiful chalets in the region. Our guests are always delighted by it,” Stefan says, beaming with pride. The unparalleled architecture combined with the chalet’s impressive location compensates for the ascent, which is perhaps a bit more difficult than that of other chalets.
Stefan has a lot on his hands as an innkeeper. Which is why he enjoys the impressive Montafon mountains that surround him all the more in those rare quiet moments. “I love being at the Saarbrücker Chalet in winter. When I’m there alone shovelling snow in front of the chalet, I can let my mind wander and immerse myself in the view of the Silvretta peaks. In these moments, I am deeply grateful for being able to be here in this place.”
