Why are Vermuntsee and Silvrettasee so empty right now?
The Vermuntsee and Silvrettasee are currently unusually empty. The two reservoirs have been lowered as planned - an important measure that is necessary for the current general renovation of the Vermuntwerk. As part of the general renovation, the existing five machine sets of the Vermuntwerk are being replaced by two new, more powerful machine sets and work is being carried out in the area of the Vermunt reservoir on systems that are usually under water: the bottom outlet, the circulation tunnel and the intake tower are being inspected and maintained.
The Silvrettasee and the lower-lying Vermuntsee serve as flood retention during the construction period and thus fulfill an important protective function. As the water from these reservoirs cannot be discharged via the Vermunt power plants during the general renovation of the Vermuntwerk, but only to a much lesser extent via the Ill, the reservoirs must already be lowered as a preventative measure. In this way, we ensure that there is sufficient space available to absorb precipitation in the event of flooding.

The status of the Silvretta-Skisafari is strongly dependent on the current weather and avalanche conditions. The avalanche commission decides on a daily basis whether the ski safari will be open or not. From 7.30 a.m., you can check the current status for the day.
